Admin 2.0

We’ve been hard at work on the next major update of Tender. The update will replace the entire admin interface, with improvements focused on support workflow and usability.

  • NEW admin design
  • NEW category sorting in the admin
  • NEW per supporter admin views (so Bob from billing can choose to view just the category related to him)
  • IMPROVED pinned items
  • IMPROVED bulk editing

That's a heads up of what's to come. There is a little more work left to be done, but we're too excited to keep it to ourselves. Keep your eyes peeled for the release in the next few weeks!

Jeff – Thanks! We’re pretty fired up about it. We’ve got a little more work before it goes into final testing, then we’ll start rolling it out. No official ETA as of yet, but it’s getting close.

Christian – Not yet. That’s still on the checklist though.

I made a suggestion about it a while ago, but will clicking through to a discussion still mean leaving the admin panel?

  7. Will Will said on October 5th, 2010

Tom – right now, yes. Making everything inline is definitely something we want to do in the future though.

    This looks really nice!

I’m also interested to see Tender supporting localization :)

Looking good. I like the focus on applying filters to the interface rather than drilling down.

Looks great! Some comments that will probably be off the mark since I have only a screenshot to go on:

“Ticketed” looks like a new state, is it? Does “New” have the same meaning as before, or does it indicate an “Open” issue you haven’t read?

We tend to shove issues into queues to assign them to a specific engineer during triage. Our queue names are a bit long and sometimes we put issues in multiple queues. This works well visually now, but I’m doubting it will with this new layout.

Will my dashboard include at least one reference to The Wire on every page?

Will Twitter integration be included with the next release? Mostly I’m looking for a dead-simple way to turn a tweet into a ticket.

Since you’re on a UI blitz as of late, if you don’t mind my curiosity, are there any frontend UI changes planned? I ask only because I’m getting ready to rip into things (no offense to the great work you guys have done) and really restyle things for another project of mine that will be making full use of Tender :).

Ralph – Ticket is not a new state. It is only going to display if Lighthouse is synced with your Tender. Chris mentioned he is going to look at your queue lengths. MOST Tender accounts do not have particularly long queues though. It’s possible we may just truncate them for the time being. As far as The Wire is concerned, that is up to your customers ;). Twitter integration will not be included in this release. It is at the top of the list though.

Tom – Yes. Since we allow for custom CSS the update is very delicate. We are pretty far away from updating the front end though, so you’re good to dig in on your customizations. When it is ready for an update, we’ll give ample warning so you have time to get things in shape and flip the switch to the update yourself.

Woah, seriously sexy update, guys—I can’t wait!

I’d love a similar theme on the front-end too but this is great for now. ;-)

Thanks! We’re getting pretty close too. Super stoked about the update.

@Adam – Yeah, the front end is a whole other story. One day, but it’s a much more complicated update than the Admin area.

What the ETA for launch? I would love to test this before my trial expires.

  19. Will Will said on October 27th, 2010

There is no ETA. We’re currently testing it internally and fixing major bugs before we it gets the clear to ship.

Looks great – I appreciate how it cuts down on visual clutter, and makes the information more scannable. Kudos – I look forward to tryring it out.
