Ruby is designed to make learning it quick and easy. But it has pitfalls — it's simply too easy to write Ruby without using any of the language's greatest features. You can't expect to uncover its hidden power if you're just writing code the way you always have. You'll need help to uncover the missing piece of the programming language puzzle. The best way to start is to find people who know Ruby inside and out, like:
- Dr. David Black, long-time Rubyist, author of Ruby For Rails and the upcoming The Well-Grounded Rubyist, and RubyConf organizer;
- Jeremy McAnally, who wrote Ruby in Practice and The Humble Little Ruby Book, and publishes The Rubyist, whose programmatic templates project recently merged into Rails, and who Ruby Inside named Top Hitter of 2008 for his ludicrous number of open-source projects;
- Rick Olson, Rails core team member and creator of all those essential Rails plugins like restful_authentication and attachment_fu. He bends Ruby to his iron will.
Want to become a cutting-edge, expert Rubyist? Ask people who ship highly acclaimed code — projects like Rails, context, and the most popular Rails plugins to date. Want the skills to get an edge in your next job interview? Pair program with a prolific open source developer like Rick. Want to understand Ruby's OO? David Black's explanation of Ruby's object model is (in our opinion) the single best, simplest, most coherent, and most comprehensive on you'll find. The benefits of our training far exceed the few hours we'll spend with you.
Jeremy and David will lead a three-day Ruby course on April 1st-3rd, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia Tech Hotel & Conference Center. Rick will be on hand to pair program with you and answer questions one-on-one. We're including ample time for hacking and individualized questions.
This is not the one-size-fits-all approach you might get elsewhere. We're going to make sure you learn Ruby, and learn it better than you would anywhere else. Sound good? Then get over there and register!
