While I’ve never actually seen him speak, hadn’t met him in person, and frankly never saw any of his code, this tweet opened up a line of negotiation that culminated in our hiring of the virtually immeasurable Giles Bowkett, and the expansion of our teensy Los Angeles team.
Giles is a multifaceted programmer and presenter and really understands a lot of the things we’re trying to accomplish, and will be a great fit for the ENTP team. Welcome on board, Giles! To quote His Holiness Steve Jobs, we’re thrilled about this.
The decision was only reinforced when Giles sent me an email from a break between conference talks: “Why don’t you consider storing Ruby procs in the database?”.
Indeed.
